This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Color, color ,color! Our science classroom has come alive with engaging projects created by talented students. My most precious resources are my kids. Keep the engagement going! Hopefully your science experience in school was not just textbook notes as mine was!
I teach science in a high poverty alternative learning high school in the Delta area of Arkansas.
The best way to describe my students are "diamonds in the rough!" They thrive when given the opportunity to apply their creative abilities to engaging hands-on science inquiry projects. What better way to develop critical thinking, analytical, and science process skills. Even though they often have huge odds to overcome in their lives, they never fail to truly amaze me with their talents!
My Project
With school budgets "slimming down", seemingly small budget items needed for artistic projects such as colorful paper, markers, glue, pencils, etc. fall by the wayside. We love creating foldables for learning key science concepts such as: scientific method steps, active and passive transport , characteristics of cells, diffusion, just to name a few. We even make phases of mitosis Christmas tree ornaments! Help keep the creative juices flowing. One visit into my classroom shows how my students need to keep the use of color alive. Just ask them, "Mrs. Hamilton wants us to put a little color, color to this!" What better way to absorb important biology information and have fun at the same time!
Colorful markers, pencils, paper, and glue are just some of the art materials needed to complete challenging and artistic biology class projects and will make a definite difference in our ability to create, analyze, and evaluate problems posed in science inquiry.
