Creative Science Projects

Help me give my students markers and tripods for hands-on, creativity-based small group science projects like videos and posters. These are engaging ways for students to process scientific processes and practice communication skills.

My Project

Communication is an important skill for scientists to develop. Peer reviewed, published reports are only one way for this to happen. Scientists who are able to creatively communicate their findings can better reach out to the general public and help educate them about the world and how it all works.

I have my students make videos that demonstrate various processes like photosynthesis, erosion, the greenhouse effect, weather patterns, protein synthesis, and more.

Students are able to make more sense of a process when they model it in action. This can be done by making a video showing the process happening or drawing it out on a poster or tabletop. Having the students then share their ideas with each other help them further communicate what they have learned.

Deeper learning is happening when students are using a variety of ways to interact with the material. Students also learn best when they are working together to accomplish a task. The social interaction is very helpful and helps increase engagement, especially for teenagers.
