My students need the opportunity to do open ended art projects, and we would like to be able to offer them more than our limited materials to express themselves with paints and construction paper.
I have the privilege to work with preschoolers from diverse backgrounds- economically and socially. Children considered typical developmentally, and those with special needs. More than a third of our students are from low income families. Half of my students have special needs, ranging from communication needs to Autism Spectrum Disorder to Sensory Processing issues. Some are from farm families, and some from inner city neighborhoods. To me, they are young, curious minds excited to learn about their world, and each other.
This young group of children brings a sense of wonder and curiosity, and gives me hope for our future world.
We try to take advantage of every teachable moment through questioning, sharing and creating. We have a wide range of abilities and needs, yet a common goal-learning! Every child can learn! This is our motto! Because of the diversity in our classroom, we must offer a wide range of materials and use a variety of ways to access learning.
My Project
We have many "outside the box" thinkers in our classroom. These creative children deserve the opportunity to express themselves with more than the limited art materials available to them. Our school's art budget is low, and I can no longer fund any more materials on my own. With these additional materials, our children will be able to soar!
With the funding for this project, our children will be using their imaginations to express themselves creatively, and more!
When the children are focused, there are fewer behavior issues and we have children ready to learn and create. The open ended projects will help the children develop problem solving skills, create opportunities for social interaction, and challenge the children to do even more! I want the children to be proud of their creations, and be able to share their products and ideas with each other. The assorted paints and colorful paper will give the children endless opportunities. We have used paint sticks before, and the children enjoy the opportunity to develop even more colors by blending them together. With the freedom to use multiple types of materials, the possibilities are endless!
