Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ms. Perez and I (my co-planner!), teach 10th grade at a charter school here in Houston. If we didn't exist, some students would not be getting the same push and small teacher to student ratio that they might have at a public school.
Our main goal here is for every single student, regardless of their background or ethnicity, to attend college.
They are extremely hard-workers who have very large dreams, and may be the first person in their family to ever attend college.
Our students live in an under served community, and our push is to show them that they can be anything they want to be if they put their minds to it.
The students here are creative, curious, and like-minded. They give 100% every day! We are seeking supplies to pass out as rewards, flexible seating, and some smaller things that we just can't personally afford and is out of our budget.
My Project
These materials will be used within my classroom in order to give my students softer lighting and more comfortable seating. Not only that, but we will utilize the creative materials for projects and in-class creative work. We will use the phonics phones during tests and silent, independent readings in order to give different learners access to these great materials. With an assortment of these items, my ultimate goal is to reach all learners with different needs. With the elastic bands, this will give students with constant movement tendencies something to keep them focused while also in motion. These items will help me reach all my students!
