I teach kindergarten at a multi-cultural school. One thing that all our students have in common is that we learn better using hands on materials. No matter what acedemic level the students are on, the excitement and the learning process begins when students are included and participate in the activities. Science and Math are a big part of my kindergarten learning program. (STEM) We enjoy doing centers, working in teams, and developing skills together. Our students are learning a paradigm based on real world applications. Many of our students do not have the resources to do experimental learning at home due to a limited income. The excitement to learn is there, and with a few materials to help us learn we can achieve our goal, to be prepared for the next generation technologies work force.
If we capture the interest of students in the "Innovative Stem Learning Model" at a young age, the love of learning it will stay fresh throughout their life time!
At this age, students are not afraid to ask questions to their peers or their teacher. They are excited to come to school everyday and see what in store for them!
My Project
Our school has limited money in the budget for these new and exciting manipulative materials and any assistance would be greatly appreciated! My husband, a geophysicist and the Windsor District 2017 Volunteer of the Year, has encouraged the scientific learning process for all students at our elementary school.
These materials would allow continued enrichment of the students' knowledge, creativity and problem solving skills by working together.
I have seen the LL543 Color-Changing Light Table and LC590X Light Table Manipulative Center in use in kindergarten classrooms at a sensory center and the students were ecstatic! We have students this year that are especially interested in science and this group of students really likes to construct things!
