Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are young, smart, full of energy and excited to learn. Every day they come to school ready to discover and explore the world. My school has a high population of English Language Learners, is Title 1, and 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. They don't always have the opportunities needed to develop background knowledge or an understanding of what the world has to offer to them, but they do have the ability if given the chance.
My Project
These materials will be used throughout my grade level. Our students need to develop vocabulary skills and the picture cards provide a visual connection for them. The words on the back of the card provide literacy assistance.
The art supplies are desperately needed for my grade level to extend our students' knowledge and for them to explore their creativity in art centers.
We also use pipe cleaners in math. Students add 10 beads onto a pipe cleaner and this becomes a counting tool. 10 sets of 10 makes 100!
Painting not only provides a creative outlet but develops fine motor skills.
