I have 24 eager first graders. They are so full of energy and excitement that it becomes contagious and you can't help but join in on their enthusiasm. They are so curious and want to learn about everything!
My students are 6 and 7 years old and are at such a great age where everything is new and exciting to them.
Our district is pretty large and I teach at an amazing school. Over half of the students there receive title 1 services. Additionally, over half of the students come from low-income households.
Teaching in Oklahoma, our state is facing the worst education budget cuts in the nation. We are faced with the challenges of meeting growing demands while continuously loosing money. It is heartbreaking not being able to meet the necessary needs of our students. Our district has been forced to move to a four-day school week because it simply cannot keep up the increasing cuts to education. Yet even with all the challenges we face, we are motivated more than ever to thrive and provide our students an essential learning environment.
My Project
With this project, my students and I will be able to creatively express ourselves through arts and crafts. With continued school budget cuts it is hard enough to fund any classroom materials, especially those that are not considered an academic need such as art supplies. But art is exactly what we need! With these materials, my students will have a creative outlet. Not only will my students be able to express themselves, they will have fun completing projects, which in turn will motivate them to take more pride in their work. Who wouldn't get excited to use brand new materials such as colored pencils, glitter paint, jewels, and much more, instead of boring gray pencil lead. Please help my students get excited to work!
