What may seem like simple supplies—a place for bandages, peppermints, glitter, chapstick, and Ouchie Lotion—has created an atmosphere where my second graders feel safe, cared for, and empowered to handle both their physical needs and their emotions.\r\n\r\nStudents now have a spot where they can quietly regulate, grab what they need, and return to learning with confidence. I've watched children take deep breaths with the glitter jars, use a feeling chart to name what's going on inside, or get a tiny bandage for a tiny scrape and head back to class with a smile. One of my most tender moments was seeing a student gently guide another classmate to the Boo Boo Station, whispering, \"It's okay. This will help.\" Because of you, my students are not just learning academics—they are learning empathy, resilience, and how to navigate their big feelings in healthy ways.\r\n\r\nWhat you provided isn't just a cabinet. It's a daily reminder to my students that someone believes they deserve a calm place to reset. It's a message of love, support, and understanding that reaches far beyond supplies.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students a safe space where little fixes soothe big feelings, and where every child knows their emotions matter. While many donors may not realize how something as simple as storage can shape the flow of a school day, this cart has become an essential tool for keeping our space organized and my students confident in their routines. In the photos I uploaded, you can see my students proudly placing their sack lunches in the shopping cart each morning. This simple act gives them ownership, responsibility, and a sense of belonging. It may look small, but it has created smoother transitions, freed up classroom space, and helped eliminate clutter so students can focus more easily on learning.\r\n\r\nThe students are genuinely excited about having a special place to store their belongings. They treat the cart almost like a class helper when lining up to tuck their lunches inside, checking that everything is orderly, and reminding each other where things go. For some of my students who thrive on routine or need a little extra support staying organized, the shopping cart has become their favorite part of the morning. It gives them a predictable system they can manage independently, which boosts their confidence and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.\r\n\r\nWhile we haven't begun using the DHG Professional Pizza Boxes just yet, those will be introduced after Christmas break, my students are already talking about what it will be like to have a special place to store and transport their artwork. I know these boxes will be especially meaningful for students who often struggle to get their creations home safely. They'll allow us to protect their projects, honor their hard work, and make sure families get to see the amazing things they're creating in class.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting these thoughtful, practical tools. Many people use technology every day at home, but schools rely on it in ways that directly affect student engagement, communication, and instruction. With this upgrade, I can finally access real-time information, classroom management tools, and enrichment resources without switching windows or closing programs every few minutes. This means smoother transitions, quicker access to materials, and far more focused learning time for my students.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes for my students has been having a second monitor available for learning. In the pictures I shared, you can see our students listening to a lesson from our librarian about responsible technology use. At the same time, another student is working with our second monitor to complete an activity, while I'm using the primary screen to plan upcoming lessons. This kind of simultaneous, layered learning simply wasn't possible before the graphics board upgrade.\r\n\r\nCertain students, especially those who thrive with visual supports or need extra guidance, have especially warmed to the new setup. They love being able to use the second monitor to view directions, explore enrichment websites, or get teacher-modeled examples without disrupting the rest of the class. One student in particular, who is usually hesitant during independent work, has grown more confident because the additional screen allows them to follow along at their own pace while I manage whole-group instruction on the main display.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just give us a piece of technology, but it also gave us flexibility, efficiency, and accessibility. My students gathered around, eyes wide, hands reaching eagerly to help unpack the treasure inside—a complete set of Dog Man graphic novels, courtesy of generous donors on DonorsChoose.org. The moment they saw those bright covers featuring the hilarious, heroic half-dog, half-human police officer, the excitement was unstoppable. Some students immediately grabbed their favorite titles, while others whispered, \"I've never read one before!\" There was something for everyone—new readers, reluctant readers, and book lovers alike.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a daily routine and a source of joy. We have quiet reading time each day, book clubs, partner reading, and lots of time for talking about stories. But before receiving these books, our classroom library lacked high-interest graphic novels that could spark the imagination of all readers. Dog Man filled that gap in the best way possible. The books are laugh-out-loud funny, full of action and emotion, and, most importantly, accessible. They are perfect for building reading stamina, especially for students who are still developing their confidence as independent readers.\r\n\r\nWhile Dog Man is certainly entertaining, it also teaches important literacy skills. These books introduce students to plot structure, character development, cause and effect, sequencing, and even visual literacy. Because they're formatted as graphic novels, students learn to interpret illustrations along with text—an important 21st-century reading skill. We've also been using the books to compare characters, make predictions, and identify themes like friendship, forgiveness, and doing what's right even when it's hard.\r\n\r\nWe've incorporated Dog Man into both whole-group discussions and small reading groups. Some students are using them to practice reading fluency during buddy reading. Others are writing short opinion pieces about their favorite characters or making comic strips inspired by the stories. One student even asked if we could have a \"Dog Man Day\" where we dress up as our favorite characters and write our own graphic novels—an idea we're now planning to bring to life.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant to read have completely changed their mindset. One student in particular, who once struggled to stay focused during reading time, now races to grab a Dog Man book every morning. He's read three already and is eager to read them all. Another student who receives extra reading support has found success with these books because of the balance of text and illustration—she told me, \"These books make me feel like a real reader.\" That kind of confidence is priceless.\r\n\r\nThanks to our amazing donors, we now have a classroom library that's more engaging, inclusive, and exciting. These books have created a buzz about reading that's contagious. You've helped open new doors for our students—doors that lead to joy, imagination, and a lifelong love of books. We are deeply thankful for your generosity and support. I gathered them around as we opened it together, and the moment we revealed the brand-new whiteboard and accessories inside, my room erupted in cheers and wide-eyed excitement. To many, it might seem like a simple classroom tool, but to us, it represented something so much bigger—a gift of possibility, creativity, and growth made possible by donors who believe in my students and our mission.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generous support from donors, we have a large, clean, magnetic whiteboard that has truly transformed our learning space. My students were amazed not only by the size and clarity but also by the smooth way markers glided across it. One student said, \"It looks like the kind of board real teachers on TV use!\" That moment captured their sense of pride and how much it meant for them to feel that their classroom was cared for and supported.\r\n\r\nThe impact was immediate. Students were eager to use the whiteboard themselves, whether it was solving math problems during morning meeting, brainstorming vocabulary during writing, or practicing grammar together. It quickly became a central hub of interaction in our classroom. Even my shyest learners felt more confident participating because the whiteboard made our lessons more visible, more interactive, and more inclusive. The simple act of writing their answers on the board became a highlight of the day.\r\n\r\nWe dived into a science unit on ecosystems, and the whiteboard has become essential to our learning process. We've used it to create colorful food chains, draw diagrams of habitats, and chart the needs of plants and animals. Every day, a different group of students gets to lead a part of the lesson on the whiteboard, which not only reinforces the science content but also builds leadership and collaboration skills. Watching them take ownership of their learning in this way has been incredible.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am planning a class project where students will research an ecosystem and present it to their peers using visuals and key vocabulary. The whiteboard will play a huge role in helping my students plan their presentations, practice speaking, and organize their thoughts. Having this resource helps us move beyond traditional worksheets and into more engaging, student-led learning. It's not just a surface to write on—it's a space where ideas come alive.\r\n\r\nTo our donors: thank you. Your kindness didn't just fund a whiteboard. You gave us a brighter, more engaging learning space, and you reminded my students that there are people in the world who care deeply about their education. Your support sparked joy, curiosity, and confidence—and for that, we are endlessly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1734565019895,"projectUrl":"project/when-technology-fails/8804303/","projectTitle":"When Technology Fails","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp199128_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1609003606748","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/webbyssecondgrade"},{"teacherId":199128,"projectId":8854401,"letterContent":"This project has helped my students develop important life lessons about kindness, community involvement, and giving back. One of the most memorable projects we undertook this year was painting rocks to place around our community. This project not only allowed my students to express their creativity, but it also gave them the opportunity to engage with their community in a meaningful way. In addition to painting the rocks, my students also took part in a heartwarming initiative to give gloves to the homeless. Together, these two projects had a lasting impact on the students, the community, and even the homeless individuals who received the gloves.\r\n\r\nThe rock-painting project began as a way to spark my students' creativity while also encouraging them to contribute to their community. Each student was given a smooth rock and paint supplies. I asked the students to paint designs that would brighten someone's day. They created colorful patterns and designs. As they painted, the students were full of excitement and joy, knowing their work would soon be shared with others. The idea was simple: after completing the paintings, the students would place their rocks around the neighborhood for anyone to find. The hope was that these rocks would surprise and delight members of the community, brightening their day with a message of hope, positivity, and care. The students were enthusiastic about this act of kindness, and the excitement in their eyes when they saw someone discover one of their rocks was heartwarming.\r\n\r\nBut the project didn't stop at rock painting. After a class discussion about the importance of helping others, my students wanted to do something else that could make a difference. During the colder months, many homeless individuals in our area struggle to keep warm. The students, having learned about the challenges the homeless face, expressed a strong desire to help. Each student was given a pair of gloves, and together, we organized them into care packages that we could distribute to the homeless. This experience allowed my students to develop empathy and understand the importance of helping those less fortunate than themselves.\r\n\r\nBoth the rock-painting project and the gloves for the homeless initiative taught my second-grade students the power of kindness. They learned that even small acts of generosity—whether it's a painted rock or a pair of gloves—can make a big difference in the lives of others. These projects helped my students connect with their community and understand that they can contribute to making the world a better place. They learned that kindness and compassion aren't just important values to hold within themselves, but they are values that can be shared and spread to others.\r\n\r\nIn conclusion, the projects my second-grade students undertook—painting rocks for the community and giving gloves to the homeless—were impactful not just because they helped others, but because they taught the students valuable lessons about kindness, empathy, and community service. The students not only created art that brought joy to others but also took an active role in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. These experiences will stay with them for years to come, shaping them into compassionate individuals who understand the importance of helping others in their community.","fullyFundedDate":1728999916697,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-rocks-and-winter-gloves/8854401/","projectTitle":"Kindness Rocks and Winter Gloves","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp199128_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1609003606748","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/webbyssecondgrade"},{"teacherId":199128,"projectId":8618174,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your incredible support in bringing Tivi Trays to my classroom!
