My students are 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students attending a suburban high school of about 1886 students. They are in Secondary Math 2, Secondary 3, and Bridging Secondary Math 3 classes. Their families' socioeconomic levels vary significantly with many both above and below the state average. According to the latest available statistics about 29% are economically disadvantaged, 24% are ethnic minority students. The largest minority group is Hispanics. All of their teachers are endorsed, and 39% have a graduate degree. The school has 87 teachers, 5 counselors, a principal, and 4 assistant principals.
My students need graphing calculators to assist them in the learning of the Secondary Math 2 and Secondary Math 3 curriculum. I have appreciated Donors Choose for funding similar projects in the past.
I need to build up a classroom set of TI-84 graphing calculators.
About 29% of my school is economically disadvantaged so they can not afford their own calculator. I will let them borrow these calculators during math class.
I will use these calculators with cross-curricular activities that include music and science. If you read about my past projects you know that I put the materials to good use which will be used for years to come.
