My Students
I teach Technology Lab to students in grades pre-K - 5th grades at a large suburban school. Our school has a STEAM instructional focus, and our students have grown tremendously in the areas of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. They enjoy being able to create, collaborate, communicate and think critically as they develop their understanding of subject areas across the curriculum.
At our school, we believe in giving students multiple opportunities to explore real-world problems and imagine and design solutions for those problems.
We are proud to see our students grow and flourish in their abilities to work together to tackle problems they see in the world around them.
My Project
Our students are always brainstorming ways to fix real-world problems. They need more experiences in which they are able to sketch designs, build prototypes and test their solutions. For example, during our Novel Engineering activities, students will read literary and expository texts, and identify real-world problems to solve for themselves. Providing students with low cost and free, reusable materials, such as cardboard, will give them chances to not only imagine how problems can be solved but also create and construct their ideas.
Our students are in need of tools to help make their designs.
Child-safe cardboard cutters, screws and other supplies are needed to give students unlimited artistic expression, as well as support practical science and engineering skills. These materials, along with other tools and technologies from our makerspace, will provide a wide variety of opportunities for our students to be innovators and creators.
