I am a STEAM teacher of students in grades 3-5. As an elementary STEAM teacher, I have the opportunity to spark creative passions and expose my students to a variety of educational opportunities that will prepare them for the future. My school is a Title I school, with the majority of students coming from low-income homes. Because of this, many of the students don’t have access to technology and creative materials at home. My hope is that I can expose them to unique educational experiences that not only ignite their motivation for learning but also helps them develop a passion for creating and inventing as well as preparing them for the future with in demand skills.
My students love to express themselves creatively. In an effort to help create 21st century learners who are ready for the real world, it is my goal, as a STEAM teacher, to encourage students to explore a variety of technologies, including computer science.
While many of my students love coding, many of my students, especially the girls, aren't as interested because they don't see it as something that can be creative.
With the Artie 3000 robot, I would be able to show my students that coding can be creative and help them unlock a passion that will make them future ready. These robots would be used to show my reluctant coders just how amazing computer science can be.
