Creating with Pattern Blocks in Kindergarten!

Help me give my students new Pattern Blocks, Pattern Block Building Cards, and Storage Totes!

My Students

The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.

My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.

We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.

I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.

My Project

My kiddos love hands-on activities and do their best learning creating and designing. Working with Pattern Blocks is a big part of our math curriculum! We use pattern blocks to make patterns, sort, build designs, and even use pattern blocks to create other shapes. I currently have a hodgepodge of different types of pattern blocks that are very old and some are plastic and some are wooden. Due to Covid and remote learning for part of the year, I have sent home small sets with students, so they can use them at home to do schoolwork. So now I only have a small amount left when we are in the classroom to use.

These new Wooden Pattern Block sets will really help give us a reboot of the Pattern Blocks and they will be used for years to come in my classroom!

I am also requesting some Pattern Block design cards to help my young students build some new predesigned patterns and some nice storage containers to help us store all of our new materials in kid sized containers just right for carrying around.
