My Students

Head Start is a place that gives students a jump start to their education. Our school services low income families and provides them with the resources they need to live full, successful lives. I feel so blessed to become part of the Luzerne County Head Start family this year.

Our classroom is a brand new classroom in the Plains Center in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

We have seventeen energetic, funny three, four, and five year olds. I absolutely love that every day is an adventure in our room. However, we have only been given enough materials to get us started. There is so much we still need to meet the needs of our lively bunch.

My Project

Studies show the importance of dramatic play in early childhood classrooms. Dramatic play teaches students conflict resolution and self regulation, among many other skills. We strive to use many different dramatic play themes in our classroom to allow our students to explore these skills. However, as a new classroom, we were only given the furniture for a "kitchen area" and a few materials that correspond with "kitchen play." We are asking for these new materials, such as the doll house and the kitchenware, to aid in providing new experiences in our dramatic play area. Your contribution will help our students develop not only skills they will use throughout their life but also a love of drama and the performing arts.
