My students are from a low income area where most of them have no traveled far out of Philly. We are also lucky to have students students from different countries who can share first hand stories of their previous homes. Also, to learn about a new culture together through diverse eyes would be the greatest way to create progressive global citizens.
My students are artists who love to express themselves through drawings, music, or dance.
We lack the funds to provide materials for them to express themselves in these activities.
My students are the reason I wake up excited for work. I want to see them succeed. I made a promise to myself that I would care for this kids as if they are my own. And for that reason, my kids deserve the best!
My Project
Art materials like construction paper & colored pens will help foster creativity for this project. The project is a combination of writing and art work to describe their Island they create as a group of 3-4 students.
"Create an Island" is a wonderful, long-term social studies & language arts activity that gives students the opportunity to work in a collaborative fashion, use a variety of skills, and explore various subjects of their own choice.
In this project, students create, define, and describe their world. Each student will have an opportunity to show their skills in this project. I am so excited to see what the kids can put together if they have the art materials at their finger-tips!
