Our school serves almost 500 students, K-sixth grade. I have the pleasure to lead these students in three physical education classes a week. They participate in a variety of forms, from sports to skills to physical fitness. Our school understands the physical, emotional, and social importance that physical education gives children to become successful, young adults.
My students value physical education and the opportunities it gives them, not only outside of the realm of school, but also the impact it makes in the classroom when students are fit and healthy.
My Project
My students are looking to make real changes in our physical education class, one that looks like a physical education class of the 21st century. In this project we are looking to get three items that will make technological changes to our classroom. We are also looking to get an iPad to use for self analysis of movement during physical education class to help improve their gross motor skills such as throwing, kicking, or running. We also would like a protector to protect that iPad and a tripod that can mount both an iPad and mobile phone.
There are many apps that can help students improve and stay active daily in our PE class and can be used on all iPads.
Students can be filmed performing a skill and then play it back in slow-mo, backward, or frame by frame. You can draw and record a playback with verbal comments. There are apps that provide pictures and directions on how to perform exercises or skills, as well as allow the teacher to track the progress of students performing those exercises or skills. There is also an app that can be used with our pedometers to help track students' steps and activity time in a PE class.
These items would be game changers for the students and help them thrust into the 21st century. All items will be used in our daily physical education class where all students will get to use these items.
