My students have not yet discovered that mathematics is needed in all areas of academia. My students come to school and greet me by name. They are polite and are fun to be with. Due to the nature of the school, what is needed in the classrooms comes primarily from families and the community. The families do their best to support the teachers, but sometimes it is not enough to get what we need to foster learning. My students are eager to learn and are ready to take their learning to the next level.
My Project
The requested manuals and workbooks will help me plan an elective course that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math. Students need to be exposed to skills that are critical for success after high school. Students that participate in a course that is focused on STEM gives them the opportunity to build critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and communication skills. Students will be able to create and build projects that have purpose and meaning. They will be able to tackle challenging real-world issues and discover that they will can make a difference if they put their mind to it and follow through.
