At the heart of the Energy Corridor in Houston, my students come from all different backgrounds. Some grew up in Texas, while others have come from as far away as Vietnam. Many of my students are beginning English learners. Some students have parents that are engineers and some are working two or three jobs just to support their family.
Diversity is nothing new for us.
The one thing all of my students have in common is their inquisitive minds. Nothing brings my students together better than exploring the world through STEM. They love to create and imagine and think outside of the box. They enjoy challenges and never give up until they finish their task.
My Project
Having the set of Chromebooks will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is as a digital station during learning. Students can type in links that will send them straight to education videos and extend their learning beyond what takes place in the classroom.
They will be able to take their knowledge to a new level by diving deeper into the content.
We recently studied the rock cycle and classified different rocks by their physical properties. Students could share their results and reasoning and record observations through notes. They could collaborate on group findings by sharing through Google classroom.
These laptops will also allow my students to gain a better understanding of how to properly research and gather information, which is part of the Scientific Method. They will also be able to build presentations and write reports based on their results and observations, making presentations in class more fun!
