Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 7 and 8-year-olds and they are full of life! My students love to discuss, collaborate and problem solve. They work super hard and they love to learn.

This project will help my students continue to practice their skills while also maintaining our Covid guidelines for safety.

We love that we are able to start with in-person learning but I also would like my students to be prepared should we have to do remote learning at any point during the year. I want to make sure the Social Studies, Science and SEL stay in the forefront of my teaching this year whether we are in person or remote. My students come to us with various needs and abilities.

My school is in a large, urban district and we have a high poverty rate. My school is currently not a Title I funded school and so any needed supplies come from our PTC or are paid out of pocket.

My Project

I am requesting Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines which will help give my students information on their level, whether digital or physical copy. I am also requesting Secret Stories which will help fill any gaps in phonics my students may have.

My students are ready to be back in our classroom ready to learn and I want to make sure I have every available tool to guide, teach and help students stay curious.

The science and social studies readers will give our class a great way to explore science as well as social issues in a safe, grade level friendly way. While we hope to stay in person the world is ever changing and if numbers in our area see us going back to remote learning I want to also be prepared with digital resources so we can continue to explore.

My students have had an unprecedented last few years of school whether they were fully remote, hybrid or a mixture of all of them. I want to make sure to bridge any gaps that might have occurred during this time. Secret Stories is another fun way to engage students and it will help me build life long readers.
