Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third graders are enthusiastic learners and very much enjoy school! They are eager to learn and excited to start each new day. Most of them come from a small, tight-knit community which means most of them have been together since Kinder. They are a curious, enthusiastic, little family.
Our school nestled at the end of town and surrounded by farmland; however, our building is long overdue for some updates and our classroom/extracurricular budget is nonexistent.
Even though we are a Title I school and have been fully accredited this year, public school funding continues to dwindle year after year. We deeply appreciate any help you give us.
My Project
As a third grade teacher, in a Title I school, field trips are unrealistic unless we fund-raise and/or apply for grants. However, even with little access to local field trips, my students are missing out on experiencing the world at large. Here in New Mexico, many of my students have never felt an ocean breeze or admired tall red wood trees. Growing up in California, I often took field trips to the ocean, aquariums, museums, mountains, and missions. Thinking back to my elementary years, it was those experiences that inspired me to become interested in teaching others about our wondrous world.
It would be a dream to take my students on a scuba diving trip to the coral reefs or bring a swirling tornado or a buzzing beehive into my classroom.
With Google Expeditions I can take my students on a virtual field trip anywhere in the world! It would be an emotional experience that my students would not forget. Google Expeditions offers many underwater Expeditions that go all over the world. I can take my students to different spots around our globe each week!
I believe that the experiences that my students will journey through with Google Expeditions will have a profound impact on their future. I am so excited to have the opportunity to engage my students in new and exciting ways to learn the skills they need to succeed. I can’t wait to take my students to many places around the world as well as any time in history!
