Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a lively, energetic, and creative bunch. They enjoy coming to the Art Room to create all types of projects while learning about new forms of art. Whenever someone visits the art room, they will see a busy, lively, environment where students are creating. It is a joy to see my students persevere through a project so that they can create work they can take pride in.
My students come from a low-income neighborhood with very little opportunity to participate in art making outside of school.
I strive to find ways to teach not only the Visual Arts but find outside opportunities to support students in the Performing Arts.
My Project
My students love drawing and painting. Whenever I introduce a new supply such as Kwik Stix, their eyes light up as they work the bold and intense color into their artwork. They also get excited every time I bring out a fresh set of watercolor paints for their masterpieces.
I strive to teach my students to take pride in the art materials.
They will use the construction paper crayons to create bright and bold drawings on colored pieces of paper. The woodless colored pencils allow students to efficiently color large areas. Also, the Kwik Stix tempera sticks are an effective way to get a bold and painterly look without the mess. The students love oil pastels as well and will use the oil pastels to create watercolor resist paintings. When they first used neon oil pastels, they were ecstatic to see the bright colors
Watercolors are a great tool in teaching children how to be responsible with materials. With watercolors, the students learn proper brush and paint care.
We are excited to dip our hands into these materials! Thank you in advance for your donations!
