This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year I have the pleasure of teaching a great group of first grade students. They come to school eager to learn more about the world around them and ask several questions about what's going on in our world.
As a teacher in a Title I school, many of my students come from poverty stricken, low-income homes.
Some also are learning English as a second language and others have special needs. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Some of my students live in a shelter or motels or are living with other families.
We have a laminator at the school, but it really hard to get to it because their is only one and if it runs out of laminate it may take a while for me to get games laminated. Then students get stuck using the same games over and over until I can get to the laminator.
My Project
I will be able to make so many games with the laminator in my room! The students will practice the skills they have learned in their reading and math small groups by playing the games independently and with a partners during center time. I can use these games in all areas of the curriculum. The students get so excited when they play games because it makes learning fun!
My goal is to see all students in my class reading on grade-level by the end of the year and being able to perform grade level math tasks.
These games can be for learning the alphabet, making word families, counting, and problem solving and many other concepts. I added a swivel stapler to be able to repair books that have come apart at the spine and the create books for small reading groups.
Thank you so much for considering this project, it will help my students greatly!
