Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is considered low-income based on the socio-economic status of most of the students who attend. The school is very diverse, and rich in culture. Students are excited to be involved in extra-curricular school activities.
My students are the kind of students who ask to stay in for recess or stay after school for tutoring.
My 4th and 5th graders are very eager to learn and, contribute to the school and classroom culture. These 90 students love to be challenged, and always go the extra mile.
My Project
In my classroom, students learn science and social studies in ways that promote Agency, Authority, and Identity. Meaning that the goal is for students to begin to take ownership in their work. In order to do this, I try to inspire my students to be independent and critical thinkers. One way that helps students gain a sense of independence, is through flexible seating.
Having Chromebooks in the classroom will allow students to learn what it means to be a researcher.
Once again, this will help with inspiring AAI attitudes. Especially because of the socio-economic status of most students, electronics are only able to be accessed while at school. Having said that, providing my students with easy access to electronics, will allow them the opportunity to persevere in this day and age.
