This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am music teacher in a New York City public school. My school has an extremely diverse study body. Our neighborhood is full of culture and has a lively music scene. I am very excited to be working in such a wonderful neighborhood and with students who have a true passion for music and performing arts.
My students are energetic, fun-loving, motivated kids who absolutely love music.
This year they are working towards improving their keyboard and piano skills. They have been extremely excited and interested in improving their piano skills.
My Project
My students are currently learning keyboard/piano skills on mini Casio keyboards. Unfortunately, not only do we not have enough keyboards to accommodate every student, but the keys are starting to break off of these old keyboards and they are slowly breaking down all together.
I have a lot of experience teaching piano and keyboard skills and I know I can teach a better curriculum with these new instruments and even incorporate a keyboard performance at our school Winter or Spring concert.
As a Title I school in New York City, we do not have the same resources as other schools. Even so, my students have been trying their best to practice diligently and are still progressing at an incredible rate. However, I truly believe that with these new instruments, I can help give my students a better learning experience that will lead them to continue in their musicianship for life. Even though they are happy enough with their current keyboards, I know they will benefit greatly by having a whole new realm of possibilities open to them with these new keyboards.
