My students vary greatly. Some have had their life planned for a long time and others simply need to get through today. However, I feel they should all have a plan for what lies ahead of them after graduation.
My students are a mixed bag.
Some come from affluent households and some are homeless. Some have a strong and supportive support system others have no one or the people they do have may not be able to support them in the ways they need. They all are striving to graduate high school and move on to the next step in their lives. Some know what that next step is, some don't have a clue, and others don't think they have any options.
My Project
I am requesting 10 Chromebooks. I am hoping to do many things with these. When I go into the classroom to talk about life after graduation I can get the students on the Chromebooks and have them research different possibilities in terms of jobs, colleges, etc. When I have a student in my office they can use the Chromebook to register for the ACT, apply to the college of their choice, apply for the FAFSA, take a college entrance exam in order to take college classes while in high school. Students can even use the Chromebooks to participate in webinars with business professionals and learn about different occupations and careers.
This donation will improve my classroom by letting my students have technology at their fingertips.
Instead of having to rely on the students to do a lot of things on their own outside of school, I will be able to have multiple students doing things at the same time. I am hoping this makes the transition to post-secondary easier for my students and in turn more of them will have success after graduation.
