Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard working and have the dream of improving their lives and their children's lives by working through adversity and graduating high school.
Coming from all walks of life, my students find themselves unified through having a second chance to break the cycle and make a better life for themselves and their children.
Determined to succeed, my students always go the extra mile to do their best to apply themselves and surpass the chain and struggles that try to hold them back.
My Project
There are many things in the world my students have never been exposed to. Many of my students are reluctant readers and have young children of their own.
Picture books are an excellent way to create equity and expose students to other cultures and perspectives.
These picture books are also a way for them to share the exposure of other cultures with their young children.
One activity we do in my class with picture books is comparing and contrasting the characters in the book to ourselves, to characters in other books, and to what is going on in the world. This helps build the student's ability to make connections between themselves, other texts, and the real world when reading chapter books.
