Creating Environmentally Conscious Students With Compost Bin!

My students need a Worm Factory and worms to create their compost bin as a class. This specific bin will help them watch the steps of decomposition and the importance of recycling!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The school that I work in is in a high-poverty area, and most students are considered "at-risk". This means that a majority of my students are about two grade levels behind. I also have special education and ESOL students in my classroom. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students come to school tired and in need of engaging lessons and movement. With your help, I can make my room an awesome place to learn and grow!

My Project

You donation will go towards a compost bin in our classroom. A compost bin is beneficial because it teaches concepts as far reaching as the life cycle, the importance of death and decomposition, soil, recycling, resource management, garbage and landfills, and biodegradable and non-biodegradable items. Children get to touch dirt, hold worms, build compost piles, set up and explore worm bins, analyze what they’ve eaten for lunch, plant seeds, teach other students, and do service projects. While doing this, the children learn a new appreciation of natural cycles and resources and will go on to teach others the importance of respecting our environment.
