The donations from this project will greatly impact my students' learning. Studies show that the brain retains more information when provided with at least 30 minutes of movement a day. My active students will feel ownership over their active learning with flexible seating in my classroom.
Giving high-poverty students stimulation in the classroom will greatly improve their learning experience.
Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. It helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. I plan for my students to use these materials daily. Some students work better standing up, some students work better sitting on a soft rug in their own quiet spots. The rugs and beanbags will be used by the students as independent work spaces. They may read a book or grab a clipboard and work on their writing independently on the rugs or beanbags. These materials will help them enjoy learning while teaching them self motivation and self control. The portable chairs will allow students to move to work in collaborative groups which raises engagement and ownership of work. The medicine balls and bouncy bands will allow students to sit at desks while being able to exercise their minds and bodies. Studies show that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, improved behavior, and overall better health.
