Creating Cultural Diversity and Awareness in the Classroom!
Help me give my students a diverse classroom library. Multicultural Literature serves as a powerful tool in enabling students to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of others.
I have a fantastic group of 2nd-grade students who are highly motivated and have a love for learning. My students inspire me and they push me to think outside of the box to create lessons and experiences that will interest them and meet their needs. My students represent a very mixed population both culturally and economically, and despite challenges, they always give their own personal best and push to succeed!
My Project
Culturally diverse classroom libraries are important!! I selected many diverse books like Too Many Tamales, Freedom Summer, and Whoever You Are to help my students become aware and accepting of others who are different than them. In class we will complete novel studies on these three books to deepen student understanding of different cultures.
In our increasingly diverse and multicultural society, it’s more important than ever for teachers to incorporate culturally responsive instruction in the classroom.
Fostering inclusion and awareness around multicultural education and taking a culturally responsive approach to teaching benefits all students. Not only does creating greater multicultural awareness and inclusion help students with different backgrounds and needs succeed, but it encourages acceptance and helps prepare students to thrive in an exponentially diverse world.
