Creating Cross Cultural Connections

Help me give my students a rug and chairs to make their space welcoming, and discussion cards so we can practice our communication skills with the meaningful conversation!

My Project

I have a minimum of 30 students who have entered our school from grades K-12 that have come from many different parts of the world. There is a variety of cultures and languages, all of which bring great diversity to our school. These languages include; Swahili, Haitian/Creole, Spanish, Arabic, Filipino, and Yoruba. These students are acclimating the best they can while facing language barriers, lack of connection with other students, and the need to feel at home.

With these new supplies, my students will be able to join together and connect in new ways.

The discussion cards will help students and teachers build relationships as we continue to work on their communication skills and sentence frames. My goal is to build community among these students and create a warm and welcoming environment in the process. Having a nice rug and these chairs for our new space will allow walls to break down as students adjust and acclimate to a more relaxed setting.

Multilingual learners can often feel isolated and excluded. My goal is to create a space and environment that promotes community, strong relationships, and trust. With these supplies, I believe I will be more successful at meeting that goal.
