Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse mix of energetic, intelligent, and curious 9 & 10-year-olds who need resources to truly excel! My school is an urban, high-poverty school that strives to do what's best for the kids, but we often don't have the budget for the "extras" (basic supplies, books, technology, field trips, etc.) that can make a significant positive impact on student learning and growth. Many of my students have had traumatic backgrounds, have learned English as a second language (ESL), or have families that struggle to simply put food on the table. Despite these challenges, they thrive when presented with the opportunity to do so.

My intention is to work each and every day to help close the Opportunity Gap facing the wonderful students in my classroom!

My Project

My students are in desperate need of a new rug for our classroom. The rug that I had was at least 10 years old and had been handed down from the previous teacher. It was in such bad shape that it needed to be thrown away at the end of the school year. It was frayed and worn to the point of no return!

The My American Doodle Map Rug is a beautiful rug and will be a wonderful place for our classroom community to gather during Morning Meeting and throughout the day for learning and sharing.

The rug is not only aesthetically beautiful but will also provide an additional opportunity for students to learn the geography of the United States. I envision them playing US States Twister, and other kinesthetic leaning activities.

The carpet will also come in very handy as we are participating is a Postcard Exchange this year and students will be able to quickly and easily identify where the postcards are from.
