Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With a personal greeting at the door and a proper welcome, my class is eager to begin another day of learning with brilliant smiles on their faces and open-minds to capture applicable knowledge.

My extraordinary group this year consists of sixteen girls and fourteen boys, all appreciative to be in a safe and comfortable learning environment.

This is especially important due to the fact that most of them come from homes without a traditional nuclear family. The demographics here at our school qualify us for Title I assistance, yet you would probably never realize this from the attitudes and efforts of these students. About a sixth of my students also qualify for resource services as a way to learn and build skills that currently are underdeveloped. The administration and staff here at our school are tremendous at building real connections with our students, which allows them to prosper academically, emotionally, and socially.

My Project

My students often struggle to use the pop-up keyboards that are integrated with Apple devices - specifically iPads. As our end-of-the-year state assessment will be completed entirely using these devices on-line, my students will use these new requested keyboards to enter more easily, the required extended responses on many of the expected reading, writing, and math questions. These attachments will allow the students to focus entirely on the analytical skills and strategies necessary for success, rather than whether or not they accidentally typed a "p" when they actually needed an "o". If I could, I would ask for thirty devices total, one for each student, but seventeen is a good number to begin with.

The donation of these keyboards is sure to allow for a greater demonstration of the mastery of our state standards for these students.

Better scores allow for greater confidence and provide the motivation to continue providing the critical effort needed to for academic success well into the future.
