Creating Classroom Space

Help me give my students furniture for our classroom space that creates a calm and purposeful learning environment.

My Students

Our school is in a small rural town. A large percentage of our students are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch and come from homes that are economically disadvantaged. There is a population of students from Somalia, Kenya, and Mexico who are learning English as a second language.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and they have individualized educational plans, often needing additional support in academic and social settings.

We spend our time teaching core academic curricula in the areas of English and mathematics, while also exploring the topics of social and emotional education. Furthermore, we focus on the transition to life after high school, either preparing students for the workforce or post-secondary schooling. The high school environment creates opportunities for our students to grow and mature as they learn about themselves and others.

My Project

When we return to school and my classroom is once again able to be filled with eager students ready to learn and grow, I want to provide them with a welcoming and comfortable space.

Moving into a new classroom this year has given me the opportunity to create a space that is calm and purposeful.

I hope my students feel welcome, calm, and ready to learn when they enter my door.

I want to continue to create a space that promotes learning while also allowing students to feel comfortable and safe. It is my hope to give them space within my room to call their own, whether it be a drawer to store their academic items or a comfortable seat.
