Creating Calm: Sensory Supports for Student Success

Help me give my students with sensory processing differences such as those on the autism spectrum and those with ADHD a way to feel comfortable in our learning environment.

My Project

Our classroom serves a diverse group of learners, including students with sensory processing differences such as those on the autism spectrum and those with ADHD. Many of these students experience challenges with overstimulation, focus, and self-regulation, which can impact their ability to fully engage in learning. Funding for sensory-support items—such as a low-stimulation rug with clearly defined seating circles, quiet sensory bags, noise-reducing headphones, and hands-on ADHD tools—would create a more structured, calming, and inclusive environment. These resources help reduce anxiety, support attention, and provide appropriate outlets for movement and sensory input, allowing students to better access instruction and participate alongside their peers. By meeting these sensory needs, we not only improve individual student outcomes but also foster a more focused, supportive classroom community where all students can thrive.
