Creating At Home Engineering Kits

Help me give my students paper plates , foil, and construction paper to make engineering at home kits during our school closure.

My Students

I teach science and engineering to four hundred and fifty, K-5 students at an amazing school. Students come into my class naturally curious and thoughtful engineers. My students have huge, caring hearts. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. We have a diverse culture of kids. All students come in ready to take what they know and apply it to science and engineering.

It is an honor to be part of their learning journey.

I strive to provide them with rich opportunities to inspire them to use science and engineering. My students' thinking and problem-solving skills always leave me amazed. I am so grateful to be their science and engineering teacher. I love watching them grow, take risks and find their passions.

My Project

Our state has closed schools until April 24th and possibly beyond. While our doors are shut, this doesn't mean our engineering needs to stop. We have 24 sites that are offering grab and go meals where families can get food for breakfast and lunch. We would like to make engineering kits with common supplies that these homes may not have , and give them an opportunity to use this time to complete different engineering challenges.

Our Engineering Kits will give materials and direction in helping solve district wide challenges reaching over 2,400 students every week.

Attached to their kit is a engineering challenge sheet. The engineering sheet includes challenges like design a state park, build a bridge, build a space ship, build a statue. These kits will provide materials to families that may not have access to them engaging in challenges. We have set up a way for families to show their projects and create a video explaining their creation. We have the volunteers ready to put the STEM Kits together, we just need the materials.
