Creating and Continuing Our Love for Reading!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This coming school year I have the honor of teaching reading to an entire group of amazing second grade scholars! These students work so hard to reach the expectations I set for them. I want to ensure that I am doing my part to provide them with world-class instruction daily!

I teach in a Title I school where most of the students receive free lunch.

That means these children come from families with incomes at or below the poverty level. When I pick my students up from the cafeteria every morning, I make sure to greet them with a smile and virtual greeting. We always begin our class with a mood meter to ensure all students feel heard and loved.

I want to foster a love for reading and learning in my students. I also want them to have confidence to take risks and know that they can do whatever they set their minds to.

My Project

These collections of books on my scholars' reading levels will continue to embrace their love for reading. I have a 2nd grade classroom library, but with the learning deficit from COVID-19, I am in need of more books that are on my students' independent reading levels.

I want to instill a love for learning and reading through a variety of books on their independent reading levels.

I teach second grade, but my students' reading levels range from Pre Kindergarten through 3rd grade. My students love to read, and I want to continue to put new books in their hands to encourage their reading!

This addition to our library will also allow me to send books home with my scholars to read with their families at home. My scholars get excited about their new learning, and I want to continue to encourage that by sending books home with them.
