This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 5-6 year olds in a Kindergarten classroom in Dorchester, MA and come from very diverse backgrounds. Our school has a high poverty rate and many students are faced with a variety of hardships. However, each one of them comes to school every day excited to learn. They are curious about the world around them and eager to explore and learn new things.
Kindergarten is a place to develop many critical skills to become life long learners and reading is just one of them.
My students are curious and excited about school and are eager to gain knowledge. They deserve a classroom filled with materials that can foster that curiosity and passion for learning.
My Project
My classroom is in need of a new rug for gathering during learning experiences. Our current rug is too small for the number of students in the class and is very worn out from years of use.
This new rug would make gathering for learning more comfortable for all students and give everyone their own personal space.
The rug area is used for a variety of activities throughout the day and a new rug would make our room more inviting to all students and allow us to learn in a safe and comfortable space. With 20 students in the class, having a space that is your own is important.
