This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a great group of students who no matter what is going on in their neighborhood or lives show up every day with a smile on their face ready to learn!
My students are curious, adaptable, courageous, resourceful and compassionate.
We are a small school in Oakland and our students are faced with challenges everyday, often forcing my students to grow up faster than they should. We are a Title I school with over 90% on the free-reduced lunch program. Most people don't like going to work but as cliche as it sounds I love going to work everyday knowing that I get to work with these students. These students are the most amazing and resilient kids and I am so thankful that I get to work with them everyday.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help transform my classroom into an inviting and safe place where students can learn, be organized and develop. We are a small elementary school in Oakland. Many of my students suffer from trauma or face everyday challenges that force them to grow up too fast.
I want to provide a safe place where my students can thrive.
The chair seats will provide space for the students to keep their supplies. Having individual places for the students to put their materials will make transitions easier and faster and as a result more time for learning. The book bins will be used to organize the classroom library so students will be able to easily find books in their reading level. The pocket chart stand and pocket charts will help me as a teacher organize things like reading strategies and spelling words.
