My students need a quiet, comfortable setting to feel safe when they come to me to talk about the many challenges in their lives. Floor chairs allow the students to feel welcome and relaxed.
The students I serve are in a low-income/high poverty school. Our students are faced with many challenges both in and out of school. Being a Special Education Teacher, I work very hard to help minimize these challenges so that each student can come to school prepared and receive the education they deserve. These challenges can include physical, emotional, or economic problems. It is my job to help them succeed at school.
Creating an Environment for them to breathe, think, then react!
As a teacher at a school which services many low income/high poverty students, I have students that come to me throughout the day looking for a calm, relaxing place where they can talk about their feeling, their fears, and strategies to help them cope with everything that comes their way. You would never imagine the number of challenges many of them face each day.
My Project
As a Special Education teacher for multiple grade levels, I have many students that come to me daily to discuss the challenges in their lives. These challenges can include physical, emotional, family and/or economic problems. Having floor chairs in my room that the students can adjust to their comfort level while talking and learning, creates a welcoming, calm environment. For social emotional wellness and academic success to occur throughout the day, students need a place where they can breathe, think, and then react! These floor chairs will also be utilized with the students' floor desks which they love to use for learning!
