Their success is a direct result of both their hard work and your generous donation.\r\n\r\nBecause we had access to prepackaged event materials, I was able to spend less time gathering supplies and more time supporting students as they experimented, practiced, and prepared for their events. This year's events included Mission Possible, where students designed and built their own Rube Goldberg machines; Mystery Liquids, where they solved a crime by identifying unknown substances; Disease Detectives; and many more.\r\n\r\nOne of the highlights was watching students use the chromatography kit. Their curiosity and excitement were evident as they observed how different inks separated into unique patterns, colors, and lengths. They were excited and eager to try everything out. They especially like the magnetic building blocks and magnetic men. \r\n\r\nSTEM play can have a meaningful impact on children's social-emotional development and behavioral regulation. When children engage in hands-on problem solving, building, experimenting, and collaborative exploration, they naturally encounter challenges that require patience, persistence, and flexible thinking. These experiences help them develop emotional resilience, as they learn to cope with frustration, manage setbacks, and celebrate small successes. \r\n\r\nSTEM play often occurs in group settings, which fosters communication, cooperation, and empathy; children must share ideas, negotiate roles, and listen to others' perspectives, strengthening their social skills. My students have been using the donated materials in small social-emotional learning groups to achieve these goals.\r\n\r\nMy students have been using the donated materials by themselves as well to help them regulate their emotions when they come to take breaks. The structured yet open-ended nature of STEM activities supports behavioral regulation by encouraging focus, planning, and self-monitoring.
