In working with a new student population group of severe profound disabilities, I am learning that the classroom environment matters. Keeping items organized and ready to go is a must.
My students need a new storage space, a room divider, and a shelf for work and sensory items will help set up their classroom for success.
I work with a team of paraprofessionals to serve our highest need students. In order to meet the unique learning and behavioral needs, our students rotate through para led stations that include motor, art, music, life skills, academics, and social skills activities. We all work together to educate our students.
The items in this project will be used to better organize workstations so academics and sensory motor items are ready to go. Joint attention to a task is difficult to gain at times. Having to spend time gathering needed items for an activity while a student waits decreases the instructional time and I am likely to lose the student's attention to the actual activity. Having a full view of the entire busy classroom also makes learning more difficult for my high needs students.
Because I depend on my team of paras to support instruction, they need items ready to go in an organized way. This allows my whole room to run more smoothly, keeping kids calm and engaged.
