Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching in an underprivileged school district my goal is to create an inclusive classroom environment to promote social-emotional learning through art and music therapy. The supplies being requested include: Who's Feeling What a Social Emotional game, Funny Note pads, mechanical pencils, Breaking Barriers Down Social Skills game, liquid motion bubble timer, and Inspirational quotes stickers. Many of my students have either been diagnosed with an emotional disability or have learning difficulties which turn into academic challenges and increase frustration. Students will be encouraged to center their thoughts utilizing these tools as additional coping strategies.

Painting is a therapeutic form of mindfulness.

I have exceptionally talented artists and musicians. These materials can help us explore Art and Music Therapy and create expressive pieces that are aligned with the curriculum. Building character and self-development is vital in 3rd graders because this is a pivotal year. The canvases, acrylic paint, paint brushes, wipes, mechanical pencils, keyboard, and teacher-created canvas pocket chair will help my learners foster new ideas.

I have a culturally responsive classroom and each month is dedicated to human rights. The Black History set of books contributes to learners previewing people that may be culturally relatable. Furthermore, my class enjoys reading books around the classroom. Either on the rug, the tile floor, or on mats. Lakeshore Flex Space Washable Floor Seat will give them comfort and relaxation as they dive into different genres of texts selected during collaborative work sessions or independent reading time.

All the supplies requested will transfer to real-life contexts and support adaptation to a world that is constantly evolving. While facing day-to-day challenges, it is imperative that I continue to instill mindfulness and coping strategies for my students to fully access our curriculum.
