Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, inquisitive and creative. They are multilingual and love to learn in both languages, Spanish and English. The majority of them come from Spanish speaking homes and are English language learners.

They live in a working-class community, and our school is a Title I school which means that the majority of students (in our case 100%) receive free lunch because of family income.

They come to school every day ready to try new things and take on new challenges. They have a lot of dreams and aspirations of becoming writers, scientists, teachers, doctors, artists, and historians.

My Project

My students read independently every day in both Spanish and English. They especially love to read at the carpet and on two bean bags chairs, I have in the classroom. However, we need more spaces and seating in our classroom so that all of the students can enjoy more comfortable seating.

I want to add more spaces that allow for flexible seating during our independent reading time so that my students can continue to enjoy reading and see that it can be both comfortable and fun.

With these materials, students will be more motivated to begin their reading and build greater stamina during reading time! This will help them become better readers and nurture their love for reading.
