Creating a STEAM/Makerspace Lab

My Students

Shouldn’t 21st century learners have access to the tech tools they need? We are lucky to have a the start of a STEAM lab in our Media Center this year. My students will use these maker supplies to learn hands-on about topics they are interested in and need in order to be college and career ready.

We are a small district in New Jersey that is growing quickly, 42% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

Our school has a culturally diverse mix of students. One third of our students speak another language at home. While my students are bright and eager to learn, they feel left behind in today's world where they hear of other students who attend tech enriched schools.

My Project

Help us become the first school in our district to create a Makerspace. We are looking to give the opportunity to our students to create, build, and learn. Students will have the opportunity to learn about coding through the use the Arduino Beginner's Kit Bundle and the makers supplies during STEAM Lab and during other open STEAM periods that are currently being worked into the schedule. Students in the Gifted and Talented program will also benefit from these materials. Our students are really interested in learning about coding and making. Due to a tight budget we are limited to what we can order. We want to create an area where students can explore what they are interested in learning. This requested Arduino Beginner's Kit Bundle will allow students to build background knowledge with coding. Students will gain important 21st century skills with the makers supplies that will help them become college and career ready.

Having Arduino Beginner's Kit Bundle and makers would be a step in the right direction of ensuring that my students will get to experience hands on 21st century learning through STEAM curriculum.
