Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first year teacher, it is hard to have a classroom that students would love due to finances. With Donors Choose, I realized that I can get rid of this barrier, and focus on the students. Making my classroom, theirs.

Students deserve to feel loved and comfortable in a classroom that they are in every day.

Two of the higher end things on my cart are comfy chairs that I would be putting in my classrooms. Students are allowed to have bad days, and that is what these chairs are for. In my classroom, they are welcome to take a step back and sit down in these chairs to have their space and time. I would also have a designated reading corner as an English Teacher. This is where they can spend free time and dive into a book from the comfort of their own classroom.

Students being able to have a year's worth of work in front of them motivates them to finish strong and be proud of their hard work. In my list, the most expensive thing are journals. Nothing materialistic, but simple. Journals require students to get off their phones and write out their thoughts/answers. They also require them to stay nice and neat since they would be using this journal all year. This prevents students from saying they lost or misplaced their work. As the teacher, I would take the extra step of creating journal sheets for them to have ALL daily work in this journal and not on worksheets as they are used to.

All in all, this would help my mission in creating a safe and loving environment for my kids. They deserve to be at ease and comfortable. High school is hard. I want them to have a place where they are safe.
