Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are ELLs - English language learners - in grades K-5 and are of all instructional levels. These students have high energy and an interest in learning. These students are highly motivated, creative and, enthusiastic. The students are eager to gain knowledge while making the best of their new environment.

My students are the most inquisitive students I have ever encountered.

They come to school every day looking for the opportunity to show their intellectual abilities; however, this is a second language for them and it is sometimes is a challenge. Regardless of the challenges, it doesn't stop them from trying their absolute best.

I teach in a Title I school. My students face hardships and unthinkable traumas, but they are extremely eager to learn.

I would love to change this outcome and facilitate their love for learning.

My Project

The books that I am requesting will enhance my students' reading adventure. If granted, my classroom library will allow all of my students to benefit from a variety of independent reading books. These requested books will be labeled by grade level and genre. The bins will be placed on the bookshelf and the window sill, which I use for additional book collections. The donations will help improve my students' fluency, comprehension skills, and independent reading skills, as well as developing stamina for reading. Students who have the opportunity to practice the skill of reading with explicit guidance learn to love reading.
