I teach at an alternative school for students who are deemed as "at risk" in terms of behavior/academics. A lot of these students have difficult home lives, and sometimes school can serve as their only refuge, and safe place. With that being said, I want our classroom to be a warm, inviting, and comfortable place for them. The majority of my students are very bright and capable students who have much potential to realize!
If my students had more resources, I feel that they would be afforded many opportunities, that they currently do not have.
Any positive changes in our classroom environment in terms of curriculum, or physical layout, would greatly impact them in a positive manner. These students would have a much greater chance at realizing their full potentials!
My Project
The materials I chose would greatly benefit my classroom in many ways.
The novels I chose are age-appropriate, and would provide students with new literature and opportunities for growth.
The beanbag chair and the rug will create a cozy, and safe space conducive to learning for the students. The rolling technology cart will make it easier for content to be projected onto the whiteboard, and the laminator will allow to laminate inspirational posters, and other resources used to motivate students.
The two different books would allow students who are at-risk, access to newer novels. The rug and beanbag would create warm and cozy spaces to read/learn in.
