Help me give my students the gift of reading regardless of what language they speak or read! My goal is to build the best multilingual library to support all languages and cultures! Thank you!
I I am thrilled to be starting this adventure of creating a multilingual library within my kindergarten classroom. The inspiration has come from a new student who does not speak any English. I have only 3 English-to-Spanish books available to me and that is not enough! Our non-English speaking students population has increased exponentially the last few years (Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, and others). This creates many challenges within the classroom.
However, if I can offer students books to show them they are wanted and welcome within our classroom I will feel like I am able to make a difference!
I can't imagine the anxiety and fear that comes with entering a new environment where you do not understand the language, especially at 5 and 6 years old. Books have always been a comfort to my students, they love silent reading. Having the opportunity to share books to all students in their native language, as well as multilingual books with my English speaking students will help foster a love for learning, reading and new curiosities! I thank you for helping me to create this amazing new world of learning using multilingual books within my kindergarten classroom!
