Creating A Love For Reading: Students With Disabilities Matter!
Help me give my students a leveled classroom library that will support their reading goals and objectives. The items listed will help me to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of my students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello, I'm a 6th grade Special Education teacher in Atlanta, Georgia. My school is a Title One school and many of the students are in need of additional school supplies and resources in classroom each day. Each student receives free breakfast and lunch along with free after school program in the school. However, this is simply not enough.
Serving students with disabilities is an extremely rewarding career however having the right instructional tools to meet their needs is challenging.
I truly need your support to ensure my students grow and reach their full potential!
My Project
When working to closing achievement gaps with students, you have to address their deficits and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Creating a classroom library with a variety of books on different reading levels will help do just that.
My goal is to support each student and help them become confident independent readers, by providing them with a variety of books that are on their reading level.
The level reading material will expose my students to a variety of genres as well as fiction and non-fiction text. This will support their overall achievement and build self confidence.
