Creating a Learning Environment!

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in Baltimore City, and I absolutely love what I do! I am a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom at the elementary level. My kiddos have varying disabilities including students with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and Development Delays. I am extremely blessed to have 14 wonderful students who exude joy, kindness, and pure excitement about learning. Teaching here for the past few years, I have learned of some of the challenges that they face. Not only with the impact of their disability, but with the challenges they may face in the community surrounding our school.

With all of the highs and lows we face in urban education, I have learned that at times I need to take on the role as my students' #1 fan!

Going onto DonorsChoose is my way of advocating for my students not only for what they need but for what they deserve! I teach in a school and district with limited resources and materials.

My Project

My classroom environment is in need of a classroom rug! I find that classroom rugs are often the center of the classroom, where students get the opportunity to get away from their desks and participate in reading a text, a reading or math center and a classroom read aloud lesson . A classroom rug gives them the flexibility to sit in a different space and position.

A classroom rug will be a part of our classroom community, as it is where I want to have our daily restorative circles.

Restorative circles give my classroom the foundation of rapport and justice within our community.

I currently do not have a classroom rug and would love for one to be added to my classroom library!
