Creating a Flexible, Collaborative Fifth-Grade Classroom

My Project

I would like to create a flexible, collaborative classroom environment by replacing traditional individual desks with height-adjustable activity tables. The Flash Furniture Wren 24" × 60" rectangular activity tables with height-adjustable legs will provide students with spacious, durable work surfaces while allowing me to organize the classroom into flexible learning groups. The tables can be used for reading groups, mathematics instruction, science and STEM activities, intervention, writing, hands-on learning, and project-based learning.

These tables will be particularly valuable during small-group and targeted instruction.

I will be able to bring students together for reading intervention, math reteaching, vocabulary development, comprehension practice, academic discussions, and enrichment activities without having to rearrange numerous individual desks. The shared workspace will also encourage students to communicate, problem-solve, collaborate, and learn from one another.

The height-adjustable design is especially beneficial because it allows the tables to be adjusted to an appropriate height for fifth-grade students while providing flexibility for different classroom activities. The durable laminate surface will also support everyday classroom use, including writing, manipulatives, technology, STEM materials, and collaborative projects.

Most importantly, these tables will help transform my classroom into a student-centered learning environment where students can move between independent work, partner activities, collaborative groups, and teacher-led instruction. Instead of viewing classroom furniture simply as a place to sit, I want to use it as a tool to promote engagement, communication, independence, and academic success.

With your support, these tables will give my students a comfortable and flexible space where they can learn together, support one another, and take an active role in their learning. Your contribution will directly impact the daily learning experience of my 19 fifth-grade students and help me create a classroom environment where every student has a place to learn, collaborate, and grow.
